Nin

Nin town is situated at the northern border of Dalmatia, surrounded by beautiful sand beaches that are overlooked by Velebit mountain, and it was founded on a small lagoon island with stone bridge connecting it to the mainland. Nin may be a small town but do not be fooled by its size as it has a rich history and cultural heritage to boast with. It was populated back in the prehistoric times, during Antiquity a Roman province was founded there, and during Middle Ages it was Croatian royal town where Croatian nobility resided. Today, Nin is a popular tourist centre and great holiday destination. There are great restaurants, long sand beaches and wide accommodation offer, together with the active tourism as an important part of Nin tourist offer as Nin surroundings is one of the most popular destination for windsurfers, kiters and other lovers of sea and wind. Regarding its rich history, Nin is a kind of a time machine as one can find antique remains as well as Medieval church belfries and churches (St. Cross in Nin is the world's smallest cathedral), along modern sculptures. In the near vicinity there is a saltworks, one of Nin trademarks, which can be visited and get an insight into sea salt production.

Zadar

A short 20 minute drive from Vrsi will get you to the town of Zadar, administrative and economy centre of North Dalmatia, but also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. The town itself had originally emerged on a spacious peninsula where the old town centre is situated today, and later it spread on nearby land, making it a very pleasant place for visit and living. First settlements in this area were founded by Illyrians, and afterwards came Romans who founded a town and populated it with retired soldiers. Medieval Zadar developed into important regional centre and it has kept that role till this day. Due to the long and rich history, today its visitors can enjoy the combination of new and old, to relive the history by walking down its stone streets and enjoy numerous monuments and buildings, as well as modern installations, the unique Sea organ and lively light effects of The Greeting to the Sun. Excellent restaurants, multitude of bars and clubs are great opportunity for everyone to enjoy exquisite local cuisine, relax as locals with a glass of quality wine and have a great time. And those who like shopping will be pleased with the offer of the malls with branded stores, as well as of small local shops where unique souvenirs and art made by local artists can be bought.

Plitvice Lakes National Park

To get to Plitvice Lakes from Vrsi, all it takes is one and a half hour drive. It is the oldest National Park in Croatia and unbelievably beautiful landscape woven with lakes with crystal clear water whose colour varies from emerald-green to blue and leaves the visitors breathless. This string of 16 lakes is located in the mountain region of Croatia, Lika, among the green forest slopes. The lakes are arranged as a cascade, and are interlinked through tufa barriers over which the water flows through falls from one lake to another. Water is supplied by nearby rivers and creeks. Lush vegetation boasts with numerous orchid species that grown in the Park, and fauna diversity is also astonishing and many forest species such as bears and roe deers are a common sight at Plitvice. Apart from the lakes, many caves are also Park's attractions, with Golubnjača and Šupljara open for visits. Alongside the lakes and caves, one must visit Veliki slap waterfall, the highest waterfall in the Park, with an impressive height of 78 meters.

Krka National Park

This National Park is also a place that can be reached in less than an hour drive, when going in the direction of Šibenik. River Krka flows through Šibenik hinterland and its entire flow is included in the National Park. The river wanders through rocky landscape creating contrasting scenery as lush river vegetation clashes with grey rocky slopes covered in bush. Krka National Park is renowned for its many waterfalls, and the most famous one is Skradinski Buk, a magnificent complex of lakes, tufa barriers and falls that is located in the lower river flow. Besides waterfalls, there are many buildings and archaeological sites in the Park as well so one must visit small islet of Visovac with Franciscan monastery, and Krka Monastery that is located in the upper part of the Park. Along the entire river, there are remains of towers that served to oversee its flow, and Burnum, Roman military camp, is also a must-visit site where the remains of the camp, including the amphitheatre, can be seen in the north section of the Park.

Paklenica National Park

When in Vrsi, one gets a beautiful view of magnificent Velebit, a large mountain that towers above the north part of Dalmatia and Kvarner region on one side, and above Lika on another. Paklenica National Park is situated in the south part of Velebit, and it takes only half an hour drive from Vrsi to reach it. In the Park, there are canyons of Mala and Velika Paklenica, and the whole area is crossed with hiking trails, and there is a mountain hut in the Park as well which makes Paklenica a great place for all hiking and nature lovers. Visitors will find interesting that there are many lush forests located in the canyons, which is unusual for the rocky area od south Velebit. Being a free climbing destination, Paklenica is also very popular among the free climbers, with Anića kuk as the most famous spot with many routes. apart from the beautiful nature, one of the attractions is a bunker that was built as an atomic shelter for the political elite of the former country, and today it has been refurbished and opened for visits with a small museum, conference room, bar and a souvenir shop inside. Other attractions include „mirila“, unique stone memorials that locals used to keep the memory of their departed, and which had even more importance than the actual graves as it was considered that the deceased person's soul remained at „mirila“.

Kornati National Park

Kornati National Park is a real treat for all boat trip lovers as its best visited by boat since Kornati Archipelago consists of around hundred of islands, islets and rocks. Boat trip to Kornati is the best way to see almost the entire Park and have a glance at the beautiful coves and interesting island shapes, together with their names that can be pretty intriguing. Kornati are also one of the most popular nautical destinations, and the richness of its sea bed attracts scuba diving lovers who can visit it with some of the local scuba diving clubs. There are also several excellent restaurants in the Park that will please even the most demanding, food loving customers. This string of pearls spread over the blue sea owns its name to the biggest island, Kornat, where remains of Byzantine fortress can be found, together with the remains of an Early Christian basilica. At those remains, a small church of Gospe o' Tarca was later built where each first Sunday in July a pilgrimage is being held when people from Murter come on their boats, a mass is held, and the blessing of sea and fields take place. In the past there were many shepherds and farmers staying at Kornati, and seafarers used to use this archipelago and its many coves as a shelter during storms. Today, visitors can enjoy the view of dry stone walls and stone houses near the sea, that serve as a reminder of times gone by and life that was lead at the islands.

Vrsi

Vrsi is a small village situated on a peninsula that bears the same name, at the very north end of Dalmatia, in the near vicinity of Nin and just a 20 minutes drive from Zadar. It is a popular tourist destination with the coast that stretches for impressive 34 kilometers with sand beaches and clean sea, making it ideal for a family vacation. The village has a long agricultural and sea-faring tradition, while today the tourism gains more and more attention. Excellent location of Vrsi guarantees a peaceful and uninterrupted vacation while bigger towns in the surroundings offer all urban facilities. Since there are four national parks in the surrounding areas, Vrsi is a great starting point for exploring the natural beauties of Croatia.
